"Indian people are usually perceived as icons of the past, while information about today's population, tribes and reservations are essentially ignored."

George Russell - Saginaw Chippewa - 2006

The Indian in Question

Before Native America can realistically develop effective political and economical strategies to deal with a roster of long standing issues, it is essential to know the answers to some very basic demographic questions:

bullet

What is today's Native American Indian population? (2.5 million)

bullet

How many tribes still exist? (562 federally recognized)

bullet

How many reservations are there? (314 in the continental US)

bullet

Are Native people theoretically programmed for extinction by blood quantum   requirements for tribal membership?

Mission Statement

Our job is to provide the answers to these questions by publishing the "Native Reservations" map, the "Facts of LIfe" handbook  and maintaining this website.
